    Description

Vintage George Stone Mastercraft Marching Bass Drum – No Reserve
Offered here is a magnificent, rare George Stone Mastercraft Marching Bass Drum, circa early 30s.  Mastermodel drums are rarely seen owing to their unconventional internal tensioning system.  A forerunner of the Leedy Ludwig Knob Tension drums, the heads are tensioned using a key that engages a series of gears attached to the interior of the shell.
Lee Vinson provides an excellent article on the Mastercraft line of drums at http://blog.bostondrumbuilders.com/2017/03/geo-b-stones-mastercraft-drums.html. The photo of the Mastercraft badge in Lee’s article is from the very bass drum offered here.
I am not sure whether this Mastercraft bass drum is a one-of –a-kind, but it is certainly a few-of-a-kind!
This drum, measuring 28"x10", is all original.  The front calf-skin head, a Leedy Whitehard, is in excellent condition, while the batter head does have a tear, visible in the photo.  Dave Huelsing kindly provided me spare gears for the internal tuning system, which I am including with this auction.
I will deliver this magnificent artifact at no charge anywhere within 100 miles of Boston.  I am happy to discuss delivery options beyond that radius; just send me a message. Local pickup is also available in Eastham, MA.
As with all of my standard auctions, there is no reserve!
    Happy Bidding!!
